Looking for Help

I Need Help Now!

If you need emergency assistance immediately, call 911 or go to your local hospital emergency room. You can also contact a nurse at Telehealth Ontario by dialing 1-866-797-0000, or Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868. Distress lines and mobile crisis response teams operated by various agencies are available 24/7 if you need to talk to someone.

If you believe you may have any of the symptoms of psychosis, talk to your family, friends, counsellor, or doctor. This is not a burden you have to face alone, and your recovery will be easier, faster, and more complete with treatment. You can also call an early psychosis intervention program for help. If you are in Ontario you can find a list of services and programs in your area by clicking here.

When you call an early psychosis intervention program, the phone will be answered by someone who will listen to you and answer your questions. To help you get the care you need, they may ask you what problems you are having, why you felt the need to call now, what type of help you have sought in the past, and what type of help you are looking for now. They will help you figure out what your next step should be. If you decide that another program would make more sense for you, they will be able to refer you to another program.

If you are unable to get to an early psychosis intervention provider, the mental health program at your local hospital will still be able to help you. They may be able to provide you with emergency services, screening, preliminary assessment, or stabilization services. After identifying an early episode of psychosis, they will be able to refer you to a specialized early intervention service if necessary.
